Milica Topalovic is Assistant Professor of Architecture and Territorial Planning of ETH Zurich Darch. She has been based in Singapore at the ETH Future Cities Laboratory.

In the proposed fragment she reflects on the mutual interdependences between cities and their surroundings, proposing an expanded territorial consideration of contemporary urban systems, in contrast to predominant quantitative approaches such as ecological footprint for example. Her reference is the case of Singapore and its peculiar relationship with its surrounding territories, and with its own ‘island’ condition.
